Within the next few weeks we will learn whether or not this country can ever get serious about health care reform. The passage of the bill before Congress will for the first time in the history of this country indicate that we as a nation no longer consider health care as a commodity to be purchased like a computer, a TV, or a car but that health care is fundamentally a right of every American. Every developed country, except the United States, has already decided in favor of this issue and sees health care as a moral decision and it is long past the time when this country must do the same.
I wish the legislation was based on a single-payer model or at least included a public option. But it is at least a beginning and additional positive reforms will be necessary. Read More
